Beyond the Edge: Risk, Reward, and Reality in Adventure

Ultrarunner Diane Van Deren and extreme skier and BASE jumper Karina Hollekim have reached the heights of their sports, but they’ve also known adventure’s dark side. Norwegian-born Karina’s pro skydiving career was cut short by a leg-crushing aerial accident in 2006, while Diane spent ten years racked by epilepsy. After radical brain surgery, Diane won grueling endurance events like the Yukon Arctic Ultra, a 430 mile foot race across a frozen wilderness. Karina has endured twenty surgeries and has had to relearn to walk, but she aims for a return to the sports she loves. Their incredible journeys and their indomitable spirits will amaze and inspire.
